Domain Group Primer¶
This document provides a quick primer on what domain group is and provides guidance on usage of domain groups.
Introduction¶
The SoC is partitioned into different functional domains, each containing specific processing cores and peripherals. In the K3 platform SoCs, the domains are Wake-up (WKUP), MCU, MAIN. The domain fragmentation allows domains to be reset and allows efficient addressing of safety requirements.
The focus on the functional domain differentiates domain group from device group. The domain group’s purpose is to identify the region to be reset. The device group may have overlapping definitions with domain group, but device group can have devices not meant to be reset. For example, the EARLY_CAN may become a device for early CAN response, but it is not meant to be a reset option.
Definition¶
Each “Domain Group” or DOMGRP is used to denote the functional domains of the SoC. Each domain’s reset can be invoked with corresponding reset API call TISCI_MSG_SYS_RESET.
The specific grouping of device instances are documented in the SoC specific documentation.
DOMGRP values¶
Domain group identification follows a generic bitfield format.
- domgrp_t type is u8 (8 bits)
- Values for the field is defined as follows:

| DOMGRP_COMPATIBILITY | 0 | SoC SYSFW domgrp for backward compatibility. When sysreset did not have domain as an input parameter, use this value as a replacement. |
