OMAP3430 ES2.0 Chip Support Package rolled into this patch


General Information 

  • Summary of Changes from ES1.0 RTM to ES 2.0
  • New Scan controller software to reflect hardware changes in ICEPick-C [XDS560 impact only]
    • Supports ARM9 emulation access when XDS560 is configured as a free running emulator either rising or falling edge timing on RTCK.
  • New Cortex-A8 driver (TPI) to reflect hardware changes in ICECrusherCS [XDS560 impact only] and bug fixes
    • Fix to support single step when IRQ/FIQ occurring 
    • Fix for ELF disassembly problem 
    • Fix to support software breakpoints in all L1 $ / L2 $ / MMU configurations
    • Support System Reset on GP device without any requirement to enable the Halt On Reset feature.
  • ICEPick-C driver updates to fix HS debug bug [XDS560 impact only] 
  • Updates to .ccs project files for OMAP3430 to add OMAP3430ES2_ ICEPick.gel for C64x/ARM9 WIR support [XDS560 impact only]

Known Software Issues

  • SDSCM00019789 – Problem with applying a system reset to cortex-a8 when disconnected. 
    • Workaround: Ignore error messages, system reset still gets applied.
  • SDSCM00019788 – Memory Load/Save Utility missing under Tools in cortex-a8 debugger for using ASCII format files
    • Workaround: Please contact SDO if this utility is needed.
  • ARM9 status in toolbar for ARM/Thumb state are incorrect
  • Cortex-A8 / ARM9 register window to write to bit fields of the CPSR register in tree view corrupts the register
  • ARM9 CP15 registers are not accessible in debug mode

Cortex Chip Support Package rolled into this patch


General Information 

  • This CSP provides the debug support for Cortex A/R/M devices silicon. 
  • Here are a few noteworthy items for this release:
    • This package needs the ‘release’ version of the TI ARM v4.4 compiler and tooling. Summary of Changes from ES1.0 RTM to ES 2.0

C283X FPA Chip Support Package rolled into this patch


General Information 

  • This CSP provides updates to simulation and debug support for the C283x silicon. The only change from build 1206 is the version change and release note updates; there are no functional changes. 

Known Software Issues

  • The disassembly window does not display the FPA parallel instructions. The FPA parallel instruction is encoded as the 2nd 16-bit word of the 32-bit instruction. This is a display problem only, not a functional problem. These FPA parallel instructions will execute correctly. This problem will be fixed in the next release so that the parallel instruction is displayed with parallel bars on a separate line in the disassembly window.

For example, the opcode 0xE0001234 currently displays as follows:

In the next release, it will be displayed this way:
000108 E000 MPYF32 R2H, R0H, R0H
000109 1234 || MOV32 @0x34, R2H

  • The patch assembler does not support the FPA instructions. A workaround to this problem is to use the .word directive with the FPA opcode(s). For example, the MPYF32 instruction from above could be patch assembled as .word 0xE000, 0x1234.
  • The F283xx cycle accurate simulator will not work correctly if it is configured in CC Setup with any F28xx emulator (xds510 or xds560). If you need to run both the F283xx simulator and emulator, then configure CC Setup for one or the other, not both. The problem with the simulator is that it will not execute any instructions and may hang Code Composer Studio. The bug report has been submitted as SDSCM00019596.

Known Issues

  • SDSCM00014440: CCS does not accept relative paths for loading workspaces in shortcuts
    • Component: Code Composer IDE
    • Target: All
    • Release Note: CCS changes the current working directory during startup, so command line references to Workspace files must be qualified
    • Work Around: Use a path relative to C:\ccstudio_v3.3\cc\bin, or an aboslute path. For example:
      • C:\CCStudio_v3.3\cc\bin\cc_setup.exe -i C:\CCStudio_v3.3\drivers\import\arm7tdmi_big.ccs -startCCS C:\Projects\arm7sim.wks
  • SDSCM00016113: Include the cache differences option in Memory Window in CCS 3.3
    • Component: Memory Window
    • Target: C6000
    • Release Note: C67X Customers that need to use the "cache bypass" and "highlight cache differences" features that were provided for C67X emulation targets by the memory window in CCS 3.1 can do so by opening the legacy memory window
    • Work Around: The old memory window can be accessed as follows, once the target is connected:
      • Select View / GEL Toolbar from the CCS Menu.
      • Enter GEL_OpenLegacyMemoryWindow(0x0000) into the GEL toolbar. This will open a CCS 3.1 style memory window at the address passed in as a parameter (0x0000 in this example).
      • You can right-click on this window and select Properties, which will display a dialog box that has the settings for cache bypass and highlight cache differences.
  • SDSCM00017777: CCS crashes when too many control windows are open
    • Component: Code Composer IDE
    • Target: All
    • Release Note: CCS may become unstable and crash when too many control windows are open for multi-core targets
    • Work Around: This issue is due to Windows resource limitations. To prevent it from occurring please ensure that less than six control windows are open at any given time. Also, ensure please ensure that all unnecessary control windows are closed. Alternately, users can alter their Windows Register to increase the resource allocation for Windows programs. Instructions explaining how to do so can be found here.
  • SDSCM00017327: Writing to the CPSR bit fields corrupts the register contents
    • Component: TPI
    • Target: ARM11
    • Release Note: The ARM debugger provides the View->CPSR Register Bits as one of options under View->Registers. The CPSR register can be viewed using a grid view or a tree view. Modifying a bit field when the viewing the register in a tree view corrupts the CPSR register.
  • SDSCM00020856: CCS crashes when opening the globals tab in the symbol browser
    • Component: CCS IDE
    • Target: TMS470
    • Release Note: When loading the attached out file into CCS 3.3 (including with SR6 update) then opening the globals tab in the symbol browser, the clicking on the + to expand the symbols, CCS crashes with: Unexpected Fatal Error Encountered which may have been caused by a stack overflow, out of memory condition, or access violation. This occurs for Cortex-R4 and ARM7 devices..
  • SDSCM00020407: Optimize the size of the pcdt and trace sizes in the 6416 simulator
    • Component: SIM
    • Target: Curie
    • Release Note: The trace provided with the Laplace simulator are very large, need to optimize for size. Need to optimize for the TRP and CPU access trace.
