TIDM-02002 - Bi-Directional CLLLC Resonant Dual Active Bridge (DAB) for HEV/EV Onboard Charger

← Back to Reference Designs Overview

Target Applications

  • On Board Chargers for EV
  • Off Board Chargers
  • Grid Storage

Features & Specification

  • Vprim: 380-600V DC , Vsec: 280-450V DC
  • Power Max: 6.6kW, 97.98% peak efficiency
  • Bi-directional power flow
  • CLLLC resonant tank with 500kHz nominal PWM switching, (300kHz-700kHz range) and planar magnetics enable reduced transformer size and higher power density
  • Soft Switching with Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) on the primary, Zero Current Switching (ZCS) & ZVS on the secondary enables higher efficiency
  • Active synchronous rectification scheme implementation using Rogowski coil sensor enables higher efficiency
  • integrated OBC design with AC-DC and DC-DC controlled using a single C2000 MCU.

Description

CLLLC resonant dual active bridge with bi-directional power flow capability and soft switching characteristics such as Zero Current Switching (ZCS) and Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) is an ideal candidate for HEV/EV on-board chargers and energy storage applications.

This design illustrates a method to control this power stage using a C2000™ TMS320F280049C real-time MCU.
