Description

This reference design provides an overview into the implementation of a GaN-based single-phase string inverter with bidirectional power conversion system for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

The design consists of two string inputs, each able to handle up to 10 photovoltaic (PV) panels in series and one energy storage system port that can handle battery stacks ranging from 50 V to 500 V. The combined rated power from string inputs to the BESS is up to 10 kW.

The configurable DC-AC converter can support up to 4.6 kW into a single-phase grid connection at 230 V. Digital control of the three power stages is executed on a single C2000™ TMS320F280039C real-time MCU.

Steps to Run the Example

  • It's strongly recommended to first read through the User Guide/Software Guide for any specific setup instructions and hazard warnings before proceeding.
  • To import CCS projects, either import via the button above or mannually select the file directory where this solutions resides.
  • Build the project within the CCS project menu, then launch a CCS debug session and run the executable.
Warning
When running the example, the MCU GND is referred to the negative rail of the power. Hence it is extremely important and mandatory to use an isolated 12 V supply and an USB isolator!
