RTSC/XDCtools Overview
RTSC is a C-based
programming model for developing, delivering, and
deploying Real-Time Software Components targeted for diverse embedded
platforms. As an overarching objective, RTSC takes C programming to an
entirely new level -- one suitable for producing and consuming software
components, comparable to contemporary programming languages like Java
and C#, but without sacrificing overall system performance through
additional runtime overhead. In short, RTSC promises higher-level
programming and higher levels of performance.
The XDCtools product --
which lies at the heart of the RTSC
initiative -- comprises foundational tooling and runtime elements that
enable others to produce and consume C-based software components
suitable for deployment in real-time embedded systems. Working
hand-in-hand with any ANSI-standard C compiler, XDCtools addresses the
entire gamut of the component life-cycle -- from specification and
packaging on behalf of the component producer through to configuration
and analysis on behalf of the component consumer.
Already used extensively within other SDO
products for several years
(most notably, Codec Engine as well as the new BIOSv6), efforts are
currently underway to "open-source" XDCtools through the Eclipse
community.
